Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Old Mill + Gatlinburg Crafts
Morning
Begin at Old Mill Square in Pigeon Forge — a beautifully preserved 19th-century grist mill district with local shops and traditional Southern food. Flat walking, ample parking, and a relaxed pace.
Parking at Old Mill Square is free and easy. The complex is flat and fully accessible. Arrive before 11:30am to beat the lunch rush at Old Mill Restaurant.
Afternoon
Lunch at Old Mill Restaurant, then drive the scenic Glades Road to Gatlinburg through the Arts and Crafts Community — 8 miles of independent artisan galleries. Fully car-based with stops only at galleries of interest.
The Gatlinburg crafts loop can be driven entirely from the car — no need to walk the full loop if walking is difficult.
Evening
Early dinner in Gatlinburg — The Peddler Steakhouse or Crockett's Breakfast Camp for a relaxed meal. Return to Pigeon Forge via the main road for evening mountain ridge views.
Make a reservation for The Peddler. Ask for a window table for the creek view. It fills on weekend evenings.
Day 2: Dollywood Best of
Morning
Dollywood
Arrive at Dollywood at opening. Head straight to Celebrity Theater for live entertainment shows — seated, air-conditioned, and genuinely excellent. Check the day's show schedule on the Dollywood app first.
Dollywood offers complimentary ECV (electric scooter) rentals — call ahead to reserve one. Most shows and attractions are fully accessible. Senior tickets (60+) are discounted.
Afternoon
Wings of America birds of prey show. Craftsman's Valley craft demonstrations. Lunch at Aunt Granny's family-style buffet — outstanding Southern food inside the park.
Use the Dollywood park tram between zones — no need to walk the full park distance. Tram stops are clearly marked.
Evening
Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show for the evening — seated entertainment with a full dinner included, no extra driving or decisions required. Book in advance.
Hatfield and McCoy includes a full meal. Book in advance during peak season. No need to find a separate dinner restaurant.
Day 3: Smokies Scenic Drive + Aquarium
Morning
Drive Newfound Gap Road — one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the US, requiring zero hiking. Multiple overlooks including Newfound Gap at 5,048 feet on the state line. Watch for deer and elk roadside.
Start before 10am to avoid peak midday traffic. National park entrance is free. Download offline Smokies maps — cell service is unreliable inside the park.
Afternoon
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg — completely flat, fully accessible, no hiking. The shark tunnel conveyor walkway requires no walking at all. Allow 2-3 hours.
Ripley's is entirely accessible including the shark tunnel conveyor walkway. Best visited on a weekday afternoon to avoid peak Saturday crowds.
Evening
The Island fountain show — free, short flat walk from parking, runs nightly. Grab ice cream from an Island shop and find a spot near the fountain. A lovely, low-effort finale to the trip.
The Island parking is free. The fountain show is posted at the entrance. Plan to arrive 10 minutes before showtime.
